How much do comparable configurations cost?

On each of four popular configurations Tihost is cheaper than both DigitalOcean Basic and both Vultr Cloud Compute lines. The comparison below uses the closest plans with the same vCPU count and memory; disks and included traffic differ between providers, so each cell lists them. Tihost's full price list for all three countries is in the VPS plan comparison.

Compared by closest configuration, monthly price in US dollars as of October 5, 2026. Vultr Regular Performance has no 8 vCPU / 16 GB plan, so the closest one, 6 vCPU / 16 GB, is shown. Vultr prices may differ in some locations; Tihost in Poland starts at {{min:poland}}.

The lines differ in hardware. Vultr Regular Performance runs on previous-generation Intel CPUs with regular SSDs, Vultr High Performance on new AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon CPUs with NVMe. DigitalOcean Basic Droplets use shared CPUs designed for bursty workloads. Tihost uses the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and 9950X and NVMe on every plan.

How much traffic is included?

DigitalOcean and Vultr include an outbound transfer quota in every plan and do not charge for inbound traffic. DigitalOcean Basic's quota grows with the plan: 500 GiB on the smallest Droplet, 2,000 GiB on 1 vCPU / 2 GiB and 6,000 GiB on 8 vCPU / 16 GiB. Vultr Regular Performance includes 0.5 to 15 TB, High Performance 2 to 12 TB; Vultr bills traffic over the quota at $0.01 per GB. Tihost lists network speed on its plans: 1 Gbps in Germany and Finland and up to 10 Gbps in Poland; for a project with heavy outbound traffic, check the terms with support at @tihost_support in advance.

Where are DigitalOcean, Vultr and Tihost data centers in Europe?

Vultr offers the most European locations - nine: Amsterdam, London, Manchester, Frankfurt, Paris, Madrid, Milan, Stockholm and Warsaw, out of 33 regions worldwide. DigitalOcean has 20 data centers in 12 regions; in Europe they are Amsterdam, London and Frankfurt. Tihost has three sites - Falkenstein (Germany), Helsinki (Finland) and Warsaw (Poland). If your audience is in Finland, the Baltics or north-west Russia, Helsinki is closer than any European DigitalOcean location; Finland is not on the region list of either competitor. How to choose a country for your audience is covered in Germany, Finland or Poland.

Is there hourly billing?

  • DigitalOcean has billed Droplets per second since January 1, 2026: a minimum of 60 seconds or $0.01, and never more than the plan's flat monthly price. The invoice for actual usage is issued at the start of the following month.
  • Vultr bills servers hourly: the minimum unit is one hour, and Cloud Compute is capped at 672 hours a month.
  • Tihost rents a VPS monthly (30 days), prepaid from the account balance; paying for 3, 6 or 12 months gives 10, 15 or 20% off. Tihost has no hourly billing.

Per-second and hourly billing pays off for short jobs: test environments, CI builds, one-off computations. For a server that runs around the clock for months, the monthly price is what matters.

Which payment methods are accepted?

  • DigitalOcean: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay; wire transfer, ACH and purchase orders on request. Crypto is not on the list.
  • Vultr: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and JCB cards, PayPal, Alipay, UnionPay and crypto via BitPay - BTC, BCH, ETH, DOGE, PAX, BUSD, LTC, USDC and GUSD.
  • Tihost: crypto via Heleket, CryptoBot and xRocket (USDT, BTC, TON and more), a Russian card or SBP; sign-up with email, Google or Telegram, no KYC. Details are in how to pay for a VPS with crypto.

Is DDoS protection included in the price?

  • DigitalOcean: yes, free and on by default for Droplets, Kubernetes, Managed Databases, Load Balancers and Reserved IPs. It works at the network and transport layers (L3-L4) and does not cover application-layer (L7) attacks.
  • Vultr: DDoS protection is a paid add-on at $10 a month per server, adding 10 Gbps of mitigation capacity.
  • Tihost: network-level DDoS protection is included in the price of every VPS in all three locations (what else a VPS includes).

How to manage the server: panel, API, bot

  • DigitalOcean: a web control panel, a command-line tool (CLI), an API and a Terraform provider; free Cloud Firewalls and monitoring.
  • Vultr: a control panel for desktop, tablet and mobile and REST API v2, which exposes every function of the customer portal.
  • Tihost: a web panel, the Telegram bot @tihost_bot, a browser VNC console and a public REST API - script examples are in the API guide.

When DigitalOcean is the better choice

  • You need managed services next to the server: Managed Kubernetes, managed PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, load balancers, Spaces object storage with a built-in CDN.
  • Provider-side backups and snapshots matter: weekly automatic backups cost 20% of the Droplet price.
  • Your infrastructure is code: DigitalOcean has a CLI and a Terraform provider.
  • You want per-second billing and a 99.99% SLA for Droplets.
  • You pay with PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

When Vultr is the better choice

  • You need wide geographic coverage: 33 regions, nine European cities including Madrid, Milan and Stockholm.
  • You need GPU servers: Vultr offers Cloud GPU with NVIDIA and AMD accelerators, while Tihost plans have no GPUs.
  • Hourly billing and a 100% network and host uptime guarantee matter to you.
  • You need managed services: Kubernetes with a free control plane, managed MySQL, PostgreSQL and Valkey.
  • You want to pay with crypto via BitPay, PayPal, Alipay or UnionPay.

When Tihost is the better choice

  • The server runs all the time and the monthly price matters: 2 vCPU / 4 GB costs $7.70, 4 vCPU / 8 GB $15.40.
  • You need Finland (Helsinki) or Poland with the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X and up to 10 Gbps networking - more about Warsaw.
  • DDoS protection should be part of the price, not a separate add-on.
  • You prefer paying with crypto (USDT, BTC, TON), a Russian card or SBP, and managing the server from Telegram.
